Photo of the Week at Goshen Gardens 2023
See the Hawk on the pole. He was having me jump up mice for him!
Having fun doing honeysuckle art.
This is a Little Leaf Korean Boxwood after the 30 below wind chill. I have heard since I have been in the nursery business that they are good to 40 below. I hope I never have to find out.
Kind of hard to beat a good ole redbud this time of year.
Machine digging a tree with Mike Ray of the Carl Ray Company.
Mike Ray is in the middle of the crew.
Mike Ray personally machine dug this very large soulangana magnolia. Perfect!
The first really big over the road mechanical tree spade I had seen was at Mike’s grandfather’s nursery. They demonstrateddigging a 10 or 12 inch sugar maple at a fantastic nurseryman’s meeting in 1985.
This very large dogwood can be successfully moved with a 90 inch tree spade.
Royal Purple Smoke Trees
Getting a summer bonus bloom on the deciduous magnolias
It’s kind of bitter sweet to see these very large weeping hemlocks go, but they are
going to a bluff overlooking the Ohio River for the rest of their days.
This is a ginko from Goshen Gardens. It’’s probably a female but I think they have better color. The placement is key.
A Golden Japanese Maple at Goshen Gardens. Also known as the show room for landscape architects.
This is the 29.3 inch European Beech.
11.5 European Beech. Nice crown. I like looking at the trees while they are dormant.
American Holly - in my opinion, one of the most resilient trees in the landscape.
Planted this eastern white pine in the drought year of 87 or 88. Lots of watering that summer.
2 Photos of the Burning Bush winged.
